Radian Vineyard has common ownership with Screaming Eagle, the famous Napa cult wine. Radian is located at the extreme western end of the Sta. Rita Hills and one of the coolest vineyards of the entire California West Coast with extreme steep slopes of clay loam and diatomaceous earth, giving a distinct minerality to the wine. The vineyard rows for our Pinot Noir are so steep that you have to crawl on all fours. Meanwhile, due to the diatomaceous earth, your feet sink into the ground up to your ankles.

Radian Vineyard produces wines with intensity, strong minerality, and a depth of flavor even at low alcohol levels. The vineyard is regularly subjected to high winds which keep temperatures cool and moisture low. This hostile environment causes the vines to struggle and only a tiny crop of small clusters are able to ripen.

WINEMAKING:
We used 50% whole cluster. The fruit was hand sorted and native yeast fermentation was allowed to proceed in temperaturecontrolled stainless steel open-top fermentors. During the 3-week primary fermentation, fruit was foot stomped with twice-daily gentle punch downs. The wine was aged 15 months in a combination of once used and twice used Atelier barrels and neutral French oak barrels.
